3 Reasons Why You Should Learn to Surf in Bali, Indonesia

by youri

Bali is like the second home for surfers from all parts of the world. And for good reason.

But the question is, is it also good for people who are eager to learn how to surf. The short answer: YES!

But we know that that’s not enough, and you might still be wondering why you should choose Bali to learn surfing.

Well, here’s three great reasons why you should learn to surf in Bali.

Perfect Weather-All Year Round

Nothing is better for a learner (kook) of surfing than perfect weather conditions, and Bali has it.

It has a summer kind of weather for most of the year. The air temperature doesn’t fall below 25 degrees Celsius, while the water temperature stays somewhere around 27 degrees celsius. This is great for learners because they might find it hard to learn to surf if the water is cold. We all know the hassle of entering cold water after all…

The “coldest” months in Bali are July and August, but even then, the waters are considerably warm and appropriate for a great learning experience.

Forever Surfing Season

Let’s just say you chose a city from all the cities in the world to learn surfing. You go there only to realize that the ocean doesn’t have the waves ideal for surfing right now. And now you have to wait weeks or even months to start your learning process.

You don’t have to worry about all that when you’re in Bali.

Bali is one of the few places in the world where the surfing season practically never ends. This means that you can learn to surf at your own pace, fast or slow, without worrying about a spell of flat waves that will last for God knows how long.

Yes, Bali does have an off-season, which runs from November till March, But that doesn’t mean that the ocean will be flat all the time. In general, the off-season (wet season) is perfect for beginners as the waves are more gentle during this period.

No Shortage of Learning Spots

There’s nothing worse than going to a surf spot, only to find it overcrowded with people, or with difficult waves that are not fit for a beginner. And although the spots in Bali can get crowded, the overall vibe in the water is very friendly for beginners.

Are you looking for a beginner spot? Take a look at Canggu and Kuta. The ideal playground for first timers!

Bali is dotted with a lot of fantastic surfing spots that are great fun. But more importantly, you can choose most of these spots to learn to surf based on the level of difficulty you want. There’s plenty of information available about which spot is best for what kind of surfer, so don’t wait around and get to Bali to learn this amazing and thrilling sport!
